About Julia's Garden Shop
Julia's Garden Shop is a small-scale nursery located in Manotick, Ontario, Canada. I (Julia) got into growing vegetable seedlings for myself a few years ago and would always share the extra with friends as family. The idea for this website started as a way to show them the types of vegetables they will be receiving and quickly blossomed into a full-blown online nursery storefront.
The COVID-19 pandemic gave me lots of time to work on this site and make my ideas a reality. I've been collecting images, seeds, and growing supplies ever since and am working hard to make my dream of running a nursery come true.
I graduated in 2021 with my Bachelors Degree in Geography from Carleton University. I am currently working on a diploma in Horticulture with the University of Guelph. I have been working at the Central Experimental Farm with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada since 2015 and it is there that I acquired my interest and talent with plants. I have always been fascinated by plants and gardens however I was able to really develop my interest & abilities by working in a plant-related field over these past 7 years. I have extensive experience with plant care from working in a research greenhouse for 4 years, in which I also dabbled in plant breeding. I also spent 2 years working hands-on with biological control agents for invasive vegetable crop species in Ontario and am currently working on winter wheat breeding for farmers across Canada.
I am interested in plant genetics (specifically vegetables) and am working on creating new types of tomatoes via cross pollination over the winter. It is a lengthy process but I hope to one day be able to offer these new varieties to you all.
I'm always coming up with new ideas and am excited to have created a platform where I can share new ideas, questions, and products with you all. I am to expand this Garden Shop beyond seedlings and have many plans lined up for the future.
Thank you for visiting my website!!
